Osceola county, is the largest and fastest growing of all Central Florida counties. It is expected that Osceola county will double its population from 2.5 million to 5 million by the year 2040.
Osceola county was started in 1887 and named after the Seminole Indian chief.
Once the largest cattle production area in the U.S., there are still about 200 ranches and acres of prairie lands among thevast agriculture. A large tourist industry exists from Disney World, tourist attractions, and numerous hotels that bring in about $38 million a year in hotel bed tax.
Not only is Osceola county known for tourism, but it is also great bass fishing on Lake Tohopekaliga.
Osceola county has two main cities of Kissimmee and St. Cloud. There are many communities such as Celebration, Reunion, Poinciana, Champions Gate, Campbell City, Intercession City, NarcoosseeHolopaw, Kenansville, and Yeehaw Junction. Many of these communities are new and the next frontier of growth.
Osceola county encompasses 1,504 square miles, with more than 100,000 acres ready for development. This is 100 times more than Seminole county and 10 times more than Orange county.
Plans for a major transportation projects are underway to accommodate the future growth. The Osceola Parkway is being extend along Osceola and Orange county border. Then farther southeast it will connect Lake Nona to Harmony. Poinciana Parkway is also being built connecting south Osceola county to Interstate 4. Lastly, the Sunrail commuter train is building 3 stationsat Tupperware, Kissimmee, and Poinciana.
